Claude Lorrain mezzotint engravings from 1813-1819. Published in a 3 volume set of books titled Liber Vertatis. This is my favorite series of landscapes they are just amazing. A mezzotint is where in order to get the watercolor wash look in these images they would cover parts of the printing plate (copper plate) with wax (where the did not want any color) and dip it in acid. The acid would burn into the plate leaving tiny little holes for ink to fall into during printing. This was repeated many more times to get the desired wash effect and then they would go back and engrave the plate. What is really great is you can actually feel the ink raise off the paper on this series. The paper is a nice heavy stock and remember we can custom frame for you. Paper size:16.5 x 11.5 inches.
