Original engravings from Glyptotek signed #1/90. Jim Dine, an American artist born in 1935, made significant contributions to performance art. His drawings and paintings, often featuring everyday objects, are associated with Pop Art but carry personal meaning. In the 1970s, he focused on life drawing, while the 1980s saw him creating drawings inspired by ancient sculptures. During a visit to the Glyptothek museum in Munich in 1984, Dine was inspired to create a series of drawings called the Glyptotek Drawings, forming a cohesive work of art. He utilized sketches, photographs, and ancient marbles from various collections. Dine produced additional drawings related to the Glyptotek project, including large-scale works at the Munich Glyptothek and the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek. These works, along with the book of prints called Glyptotek, explore Dine's contemplation of the ancient world and include his translation of a poem by Sappho, a renowned Greek poet.
